Sri Lanka ruling party accuses the Marxists of attacking its office in Polonnaruwa

Jan 14, Colombo: The ruling party of Sri Lanka today accused the opposition coalition of United National Party (UNP) and the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) of instigation the violence in Polonnaruwa yesterday.
According to a report by the government media unit, about 500 supporters of the JVP and the UNP on a rampage had attacked the main office of Minister Maithripala Sirisena even when police officers remained at the location.
A video posted on a local news site shows marchers clad in green and carrying red and green flags damaging vehicles and toppling them while the police officers are haplessly looking around.
The campaigners have damaged 4 vehicles and assaulted the occupants. Twelve persons including a local BBC reporter were injured in the violence and admitted to the hospital.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that this attack had been carried out by those who talk about democracy and have pledged to enforce democracy.
According to the Minister this attack had been carried out with JVP thugs and clearly displayed that it is the work of opposition candidate General Fonseka.
