Wed, Jan 13, 2010, 10:28 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today urged the people of the country to set aside the differences and unite to re-build the nation as it did to liberate the country for terrorism and protect the peace it achieved with the huge sacrifice of thousands of courageous lives.

The President addressing a massive rally held on the 13th evening at the Campbell Park in Borella of the capital Colombo said he will never allow anyone to betray the freedom again and asked the crowd to teach a lesson on the 26th to those who try to betray the country.

Recalling that the country was divided when he became the President in 2005, the President said his main goal was then to eliminate the plague of terrorism and this time his sole aim is to advance the country economically into a strong position in the region.

President was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Freedom party organizer of Borella and Western Provincial Council member Thilanga Sumathipala.

Azath Sally, the former member of the Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party's Working Committee and the former deputy mayor of Colombo also addressed the rally.
