Set aside differences and unite to protect the country, Sri Lanka President tells people of Mannar

Jan 09, Mannar: Sri Lanka Preside Mahinda Rajapaksa today urged the people of the country to set aside all caste, creed and religious differences and unite without being treacherous to protect the country.
Addressing a mammoth public rally at the Mannar Urban Council Grounds, the President said in the past the people of the North and the East had not freedom to visit temples, churches, kovils and mosques. Now they can move around enjoying the freedom from fear and suspicion.
It is the motherland that should be important firstly, secondly and also thirdly. Caste, creed or religious differences are not needed hereafter, the President told the gathering.
The development in the region that was stalled for 30 years is now taking place. The government has launched many projects to develop the infrastructure in the Mannar District. Once these projects are completed the region cannot be identified as a remote area, the President pointed out.
The President pledged to create an environment where all citizens could equally enjoy their rights and lead a dignified life.
Senior Advisor to the President, MP Basil Rajapaksa, Ministers Douglas Devananda, Rishad Badurdeen, Milroy Fernando, Vadivel Puttirasigamani were also present at the rally.
