The pension policies, a brainchild of the President were to benefit 40,000 retired employees. The pensions were granted following a pledge made by President Rajapaksa.
The Cooperative Employees Commission and the Sri Lanka Social Security Board jointly implemented the programme with the assistance of Finance Ministry, Central Bank and the Ministry of Social Services and Welfare.
The President was felicitated by the Co-Operative Association at the Convention.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka, parliamentarian S.B Dissanayake also were present.

Jan 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa symbolically handed over pension policies to retired employees of the cooperative sector at the 2010 Annual National convention of All Ceylon Co-Operative Association held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium today.
