Main objective is to solve people's problems, Sri Lanka President says

Jan 04, Colombo: As the leader of the country with 40 years of experience in the political arena, his first and foremost objective is to solve the problems faced by the people, Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today addressing a meeting with the heads of the Midwives Association at the Temple Trees.
Speaking of the cost of living, the President said his government is ready to increase the salaries of all government employees in terms of the cost of living.
The President said the reason to hold the presidential election two years ahead of the schedule is to gain a clear public mandate to steer the country towards massive development.
During the last four years despite the war people's lives have been uplifted. The per capita income of the country has gone up to 2,200 dollars during his term and the government aims to increase it to 6,000 dollars, the President said all the citizens to join hands with the government to fulfill this expectation.
President Rajapaksa said he is ready to face any force that is against the country and pledged to always provide every possible benefit for the welfare of the people.
Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Champika Patali Ranawaka, and Governor of Western Province Alevi Moulana were also present.
