* Sri Lanka parliament pays last respects to late minister

Jan 02, Colombo: The body of the late Sri Lankan Minister, and Up Country People's Front (UPF) leader P. Chandrasekeran was placed in Parliament today for the parliamentarians to pay tribute to the late Minister.

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Speaker and other dignitaries paid their last respects today.

Expressing his condolences President Rajapaksa said the death of Minister Chandrasekeran is a loss to the country as a whole not just to the Tamil community.

Minister Chandrasekeran died yesterday of a heart ailment at age 52, after being admitted to the hospital on Thursday.

Minister Chandrasekeran who entered politics through the Ceylon Workers Congress later formed his own party to serve the plantation Tamils.

The late Minister had extended his party's support to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the upcoming presidential election this month.
