The two-day event is held annually since 1979 on the full moon Poya Day of February by the Ganagarama Temple in Colombo.
The event will come to an end tomorrow with a water-cutting ceremony.

Feb 27, Colombo: The annual Nawam Maha Perahera Buddhist religious pageant began Saturday (27) with about 50 elephants parading the streets of Colombo in grand style together with thousands of traditional dancers and drummers.
