Sri Lanka ruling party to launch election campaign with religious rituals

Feb 27, Colombo: Sri Lanka's ruling party, United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is to launch its election campaign with religious observances from the historic city of Anuradhapura.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the UPFA candidates will commence the campaign with religious activities at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi this afternoon.
Christian candidates of the alliance will observe religious activities at the St. Joseph's Cathedral in Anuradhapura while the Hindu religious ceremonies will be conducted at the Shri Kadireshan Kovil. Islamic religious observances will be at the Mohideen Jummah Mosque.
All Alliance candidates are to make a pledge before the President to commit themselves for a free and fair election after the religious observances.
