Fri, Feb 26, 2010, 08:34 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 26, Colombo: The American Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka (AmCham) today announced that this year's Ambassador's Ball will be held on Saturday, March 27, at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo.

Announcing the event during a press conference held at the residence of U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Patricia A. Butenis, AmCham President Moji Akingbade presented the Ambassador with the first ticket to the event, a press release issued by the Embassy said.

The Embassy quoting Akingbade said that this year's theme of the Ball will be "Hollywood Nights" with all the "expectant glamour of the Red Carpet."

Ambassador Butenis expressed her appreciation and noted how much she is looking forward to this, her first Ambassador's Ball in Sri Lanka.

In his remarks, AmCham Executive Director Chullante Jayasuriya spoke of the strength of Sri Lankan and U.S. commercial interests, and highlighted a number of the organization's recent and upcoming events, including a Panel Discussion on increasing tourism in the country that took place on February 24, an American-style Networking Happy Hour that will take place on March 4, and monthly luncheons with guest speakers such as Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara and UN Resident Representative Neil Buhne.

Ambassador Butenis noted that through "increased trade and investment, the U.S. has a positive role to play in Sri Lanka's economic revitalization, and AmCham's role is front-and-center in that effort."

Established in 1992, AmCham represents over 270 leading Sri Lankan and American companies employing tens of thousands of Sri Lankans in nearly every major aspect of the country's economy. AmCham hosts a wide array of events and provides a range of services to its members, including a direct link with the U.S. Embassy. It also conducts extensive outreach campaigns to the Sri Lankan government and the general public on issues important to its members. Those interested in membership or attending upcoming events should contact the AmCham at
