Nominations process in full swing in Sri Lanka

Feb 25, Colombo: Submitting nominations for the upcoming general election on April 8th was in full swing with several political parties and independent groups handing in their nominations today ahead of tomorrow's noon deadline.
The United People's Freedom Alliance handed over their nominations for several districts today. It has already handed over their nominations for Gampaha, Hambantota, Galle, Matale, Puttalam, and Polonnaruwa districts.
General Secretary of UPFA Minister Susil Premajayantha handed in the nominations for the Colombo district this morning while UPFA nominations of the for the Kandy district were handed by group leader Sarath Amunugama and deputy leader Mahindananda Aluthgamage to the Kandy district returning officer Gotabhaya Jayaratne.
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva handed over the UPFA nominations for the Badulla district.
The party is to hand over nominations for the districts of Colombo, Kalutara, Badulla, Kurunegala, Monaragala, Matara, and Trincomalee.
Wimal Weerawansa's National Development Front and an independent group handed in their nominations for the Matale district today.
The United National Party handed in its nominations for the Galle District to the District Returning Officer Ashoka Jayasekara.
Accepting nominations for the forthcoming general election will end at 12.00 noon tomorrow and objections will be accepted until 1.30 pm.
The Elections Secretariat meanwhile, said that the contesting political parties and independent groups should forward their national lists to the Elections Commissioner before 12.00 noon tomorrow.
The extended deadline for postal voting applications will also end tomorrow and Elections Secretariat said that it will not be further extended.
