Sri Lanka resettles over 1,000 IDPs in North

Feb 24, Colombo: Sri Lankan government has resettled another batch of over 1,000 displaced civilians in their original villages in the North.
The government on Tuesday resettled 1,161 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the villages of Kilinochchi district. A total of 1,093 persons from 319 families were resettled in Kondaweli DS Division while 68 persons from 17 families were resettled in Manthei.
Arrangements are also being made to resettle around 800 IDPs in Nedunkerni North and West today.
The government said it is paying a great deal of attention to resettle all displaced persons in their native lands.
The government has resettled over 180,000 displaced civilians in the former battlefields after the areas were cleared of buried mines and explosives. Another 100,000 IDPs still remain in the welfare villages.
Meanwhile, the government is planning to provide schooling to all children in the war-torn North by the end of April.
