Sri Lanka President inspects accelerated program to develop capital Colombo

Feb 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa inspected the "Nagamu Purawara" accelerated program aimed at developing the country's capital and improving the living conditions of the public, launched at Muhandiram Road in Kollupitiya today.
President Rajapaksa made an observation visit today to the Muhandiram Road low income housing scheme in Kollupitiya that has been selected for improvement under this programme.
The project aims to replace the slums and dilapidated housing schemes to suitable dwelling places, provide sanitary and common bathing facilities, and to develop adequate waste and drainage facilities, access roads, power, and drinking water facilities.
The President had discussion with the officials and directed them to complete the programme within the scheduled time frame. The National Housing Development Authority implements the Nagamu Puravara programme.
Minister Geethanjana Gunawardena, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Special Commissioner of Colombo Municipal Council Omar Kami and Former Colombo Deputy Mayor Azath Sally joined the President in this visit.
