Accepting nominations for Sri Lanka parliamentary elections to begin tomorrow

Feb 18, Colombo: Returning Officers will be accepting nominations for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka beginning tomorrow (19th) until noon of February 26th.
So far 9 independent groups have placed their deposits for the general election. Three groups from the Kalutara district, two from the Colombo district, two from the Puttalam district, one from the Wanni district, and one from the Gampaha district.
The Elections Secretariat said it will deploy 300,000 public sector employees for election duty in the forthcoming general election, 50,000 more than the number utilized for poll duties during the presidential election.
Election Commissioner Dayananda Dishanayake has sent a circular to the Returning Officers requesting them to inform him of the number of officials who have been newly added.
Counting of preferential votes of the winning political party will be carried out first and the preferential votes of the candidates of the remaining parties will be counted later.
