* Wife and lawyer visit arrested ex-military chief of Sri Lanka

Feb 10, Colombo: Anoma Fonseka, the wife of the arrested former military commander General (Retd) Sarath Fonseka was allowed Tuesday evening to visit her husband who was detained by the government.

Mrs. Fonseka was accompanied by his lawyer, President's Counsel Parliamentarian Wijedasa Rajapakse.

Following her appeal, Mrs. Fonseka was allowed to visit her husband from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. Military Spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe said.

The Military Spokesman said General Fonseka is under full protection and provided with all comforts and medical facilities.

However, Mrs. Fonseka complained that since his arrest her husband is without his medication that he needs to take for the complications arose after the suicide attack on his life.

General Fonseka was arrested by the Military Police on the Monday night for violations of Military Act. He is being held at in an apartment at the Navy Headquarters.

Mrs. Fonseka earlier said her husband was abducted by the government and his whereabouts are not known.

His counsel Wijedasa Rajapakse, p.c. said they are preparing to file a fundamental rights case against his arrest at the Supreme Court and also to launch a protest campaign.
