Sri Lanka ruling party interviews candidates for general election

Feb 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka's ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is conducting interviews to select candidates to contest the upcoming general elections from the party.
The interviewing process by three provincially-based nomination boards commenced yesterday and will continue today.
Freedom Alliance General Secretary and Minister, Susil Premajayantha said the nomination boards are conducting interviews at the Provincial level to make the selections from among the applicants.
Political parties affiliated to the Freedom Alliance desiring to contest have also been called upon to present the candidates they expect to field at the elections.
The nomination board for the North Western, North Central, Eastern, and Northern Provinces is headed by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva while Minister WDJ Seneviratne leads the nomination bard for the Western, Central, and Uva Provinces. Minister Susil Premajayantha heads the nomination board for the Southern and Sabaragamuwa Provinces.
An appeals board headed by Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka has been appointed to consider appeals of applicants who are facing interviews.
The Nomination boards hope to finalize the list of candidates who will be contesting from the Alliance by the 15th of this month.
