Sri Lanka Freedom Party nomination boards to select candidates for general election

Feb 06, Colombo: The nomination boards appointed on a provincial basis to select the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) candidates contesting the 2010 parliamentary elections under the United People's Freedom Alliance (UFPA) will meet on the 8th and 9th of this month to make their selections.
The deadline for the candidates who wish to contest the general election to submit applications expired February 5th.
According to the party sources nearly 1000 applications have been received and suitable candidates will be selected by the nomination boards.
The nomination board for the North Western, North Central, Eastern, and Northern Provinces is headed by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva while Minister WDJ Seneviratne leads the nomination bard for the Western, Central, and Uva Provinces. Minister Susil Premajayantha heads the nomination board for the Southern and Sabaragamuwa Provinces.
In addition, an appeals board headed by Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka has been appointed to hear the grievances
