Feb 04, Colombo: The Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel management should have inquired when they made reservations of 70 rooms for a group including defeated presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka making the total payment at once, Tourism Minister Achala Jagoda said today.
Minister Achala Jagoda today inquiring into the alleged conspiracy by the opposition said it was the duty of the management to inform the defence authorities of this suspicious move. The management has to bear the full responsibility of any change in the situation on that day, the Minister added.
The hotel management expressed concern and said they were not aware of any conspiracy when the reservations were made. The management has already suspended several employees related to the incident.
The Minister explained that when the country is just emerging from the devastation of terrorism and the Western countries had just begun to consider Sri Lanka as one of the best tourist destinations of the world, every body should respect the stability of the country and the country's economy to develop a positive image.
