Feb 04, Hatton: The police is to submit a report to the Hatton Magistrate's Court tomorrow on yesterday's attack on the host of Shakthi TV's Minnel programme and his security officer, a sub inspector allegedly by supporters of Hatton Mayor.
According to the police, the TV journalist, Shri Ranga was conducting a discussion in Hatton town on problems faced by town's people when a group led by the Mayor of Hatton Alagamuttunanda Kumar assaulted his security officer, Sub Inspector Janaka Nanadasena.
SI Nanadasena, who was seriously injured in yesterday's incident, is receiving treatment at the Kandy hospital. The host escaped unhurt from the attack, the police said.
Police media spokesman SSP I. M. Karunaratne said a special police team, headed by the Hatton police HQI had been deployed to arrest the suspects, but they have received the information that the suspects connected with the incident have fled the area.
