Aide of Sri Lanka's former military commander released on bail

Apr 30, Colombo: The Colombo Chief Magistrate has ordered the police to release former military commander Genral (Retired) Sarath Fonseka's aide Brigadier Duminda Keppetiwalana on bail after the Attorney General had not voiced any objections.
The senior most aide to general Fonseka was arrested following the presidential elections in January on suspicions of conspiracy to overthrow the government.
Counsel for Attorney General today Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratne that an agreement has been reached to provide bail despite the evidence that the suspect had given combat training to a group outside his official capacity.
He has also been implicated in the murder of Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickramathunga and an assault on another journalist Upali Thennekoon.
Following the bail Brigadier Keppetiwalana had announced in the Courts today that he is revoking a Fundamental Rights petition filed earlier at the Supreme Court seeking his release.
