* AmCham and U.S. Embassy present a seminar in Colombo on new U.S. Visa application procedures
Thu, Apr 29, 2010, 09:09 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 29, Colombo: The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, is organizing a seminar on the new procedures for applying for a visa to the United States, a U.S. Embassy press release issued today said.

According to the statement, the U.S. Embassy now requires the use of the newly-developed DS-160 non-immigrant visa (NIV) application which incorporates existing NIV forms into one interactive, online form.

The event will take place on May, 11, 2010, from 9:30am-11:30am at the Colombo Hilton. The seminar aims to provide a better understanding of U.S. visa procedures to company CEOs, HR Managers and other Senior Management Staff.

U.S. Embassy staff will explain the new process and answer general questions on U.S. visa procedures. Also, AmCham's Executive Director will discuss the Secure Pact assistance program – one of the many benefits available to AmCham members.

The seminar is expected to enhance AmCham member companies' understanding of the visa approval process, improving trade and commerce between the U.S. and Sri Lanka.

Visa applicants in Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives must access the Consular Electronic Application Center website (https://ceac.state.gov/GENNIV) to complete a new DS-160 application form. With the new form, the applicant will also be required to upload a visa photograph. The DS-160 eliminates the need for paper application forms and the applicants are required to submit the printed confirmation page at the interviews.

More information about the DS-160, as well as links to the new application, can be found on the U.S. Embassy Colombo’s website http://srilanka.usembassy.gov/. Registration details are available with the AmCham office at 233-6073 or at www.amcham.lk.
