Indian assistance for development activities in Northern Sri Lanka continues

Apr 29, Colombo: India will continue to support the development and reconstruction activities in embattled northern region of Sri Lanka Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Ashok K. Kantha pledged today.
The High Commissioner gave this assurance to Sri Lanka's Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne when he called on the PM today to congratulate him on his appointment as the Premier.
India has extended its assistance to the development of Kankasanthurai Harbour and Palaly Airport in Jaffna. It is also assisting the reconstruction of the railway line to Jaffna and plans to extend the assistance for the reconstruction of railway lines from Jaffna to Thalaimannar and also to Omanthai and Palaly.
The High Commissioner reiterated that India will continue to support the resettlement activities in the North.
Sri Lanka is on the door step of economic development following the elimination of terrorism and the Indian government is in the view of extending support to Sri Lankan affairs, the High Commissioner said.
