Apr 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka's newly appointed Resettlement Minister Milroy Fernando has said the government planned to resettle all the remaining Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in camps in Vavuniya within a period of six months.
Fernando had made this comment to the media following a visit to the IDP camps in Vavuniya and meeting some of the displaced.
Figures recently released by the UNHCR reveal that while nearly 70,000 IDPs from the North still remain in welfare camps in Vavuniya, over 200,000 have already been resettled.
The UNHCR praised the government earlier in the week for its efforts to resettle over 200,000 IDPs affected by the war in the North.
