Sri Lanka's Central Provincial Council UNP members unhappy with leader's conduct

Apr 29, Colombo: Opposition and United National Party Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has drawn flak from the party representatives in the Central Provincial Council.
The crisis within the opposition of the Central Provincial Council had arisen due to a name proposed by Wickremasinghe for the Council's opposition leader post.
The UNP councilors in the Central Provincial Council have raised objections to Wickremasinghe's decision to appoint K.K. Piyadasa as the opposition leader of the Council on April 27.
The vacancy for the opposition leader in the Central Provincial Council was created when the former opposition leader, Wasantha Aluvihare was elected to parliament at the general election.
Chief Organizer of the Opposition Lucky Jayawardena has reportedly said that the UNP councilors have decided not to approve the appointment made by the UNP leader. The members are to inform their decision to the party and to request the right of filling the vacancy to the Council by the members.
Councilor Sanjeewa Kaviratne has said that they couldn't approve this sort of decisions everyday as the decision to appoint the opposition leader of the Central Provincial Council was up to the councilors.
The UNP Central Provincial councilors had met on the 28th and after criticizing Wickremasinghe for his actions had decided to oppose his proposal.
