Apr 27, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal has decided to proceed with a petition filed seeking a court order for the police to find a missing journalist.
The Court will hear the petition filed on behalf of Lanka-e-News web newspaper journalist Prageeth Ekanaliyagoda by his wife Sandya Ekanaliyagoda on May 10.
The petition seeks the Court to order police to produce the missing journalist in Court.
However, the Justice Ranjith Silva asked the petitioner's counsel how the court can order the police to produce the missing person when he was not arrested by the law enforcement authorities and police has no clue to his disappearance.
In response, the counsel said it is the duty of the police to protect country's citizens and so responsible for his disappearance.
The petition cited the IGP, DIG in charge of the CID, Homagama and Koswatte OICs as the respondents.
The journalist has been missing since January 24 and police have yet to find any information on his disappearance.
