Sri Lanka Eastern Tamil party to continue to be with governing UPFA

Apr 27, Colombo: The Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) led by Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan has decided to continue as a constituent party of the governing UPFA.
Although the TMVP contested the recent general elections separately, the party has reportedly said that it had no conflict with the UPFA and would continue as one of its constituent partners.
The TMPV contested the April 8 general elections separately in the North and East Provinces, but failed to secure any slots in parliament.
However, with its decision to contest in the North, the TMVP competed against another constituent of the ruling party, Minister Douglas Devananda led EPDP. The EPDP secured three seats in Jaffna District.
"We are still part of the government and will continue to be under the UPFA. That has not changed after the election. We only decided to contest alone and that was a party policy decision and was not aimed at creating a rift with the UPFA," the TMVP Spokesperson Azad Maulana has been quoted as saying.
