Sri Lankan President to meet Indian Premier during SAARC summit

Apr 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka's newly appointed Foreign Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris says President Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in the sidelines of the SAARC summit in Bhutan this week.
Peiris told journalists today at his first press briefing as Foreign Minister that although topics of the discussion are not yet known, the President would take the opportunity to explain to the Indian government the measures taken by the Sri Lankan government in relation to the war affected people following the end of the war.
The Minister said the President would also take into consideration concerns raised by Indian government.
According to Peiris, the government will gradually relax some of the security measures taken during the war due to the improvement in the security situation in the country.
The 16th Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit will be held from April 28 and 29 in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.
