Apr 24, Colombo: Constituent party of the main opposition United National Front, the Democratic People's Front (DPF) that quit the opposition alliance is yet to make a final decision on its future role.
DPF Leader Mano Ganesan has said that several opposition and governing party members have had discussions with him after his party quit the UNF for being denied a National List slot.
However, Ganesan has said that he has not decided on whether the party would join any other coalition.
Issuing a press release the DPF has said that as one of the four founder parties of the UNF, the DPF deserved a minimum of one slot in the National List.
It said Ganesan contesting the Kandy District and the National List issue were two separate subjects and that the DPF leader had been the main Tamil voice in parliament for the last ten years.
"In addition he had been in the forefront of all the opposition campaigns," the statement has further said.
Referring to the UNF statement that as a rule defeated candidates cannot be given National List slots, the DPF has said that was a rule only for the UNP and not for UNF.
Mano Ganesan lost his seat from Kandy District at the general election.
