Apr 24, Colombo: The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Sri Lanka Bernard Savage has said its trade tariff concession GSP Plus facility is now in the hands of the Sri Lankan government.
Savage had observed that Sri Lanka could regain the benefit by taking the opportunity to implement all the conventions it is signatory to while addressing a group of provincial journalists in Kandy yesterday (23), Daily Mirror reported.
The EU envoy has also promised to increase aid to the war affected families in the North.
EU Member States in February decided to temporarily withdraw the GSP Plus trade concession with effect from August on the ground that the country fell short in implementing three UN human rights conventions relevant for benefits under the scheme.
