Apr 23, Colombo: United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Susil Premajayantha who came under a scathing attack by UPFA coalition National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa issued a statement clarifying party position on allocating National List slots for parties.
Accordingly, each coalition party was given one national slot each, he said. "The selection of MPs was a collective decision. The party representatives were also consulted when selecting the nominee for the national list," the statement said.
It was clearly informed that only one slot could be allowed, said UPFA Secretary denying the allegation that the allocations were made based on only the UPFA policy decisions.
In a press conference held yesterday, NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa slammed the General Secretary of the ruling coalition Susil Premajayantha for not giving two national list slots for National Freedom Front (NFF) as promised.
Weerawansa blamed Premajayantha for being swollen-headed by the mandate of the people and urged the people that created the mandate to come forward to safeguard it.
