Apr 22, Colombo: Democratic People's Front (DPF), a constituent party of the main opposition United National Party led coalition UNF, has decided to split from the UNF due to issues over National List nominations.
DPF Leader Mano Ganeshan who was defeated at the general election has said that the UNP after agreeing to allocate a National List slot to his party had later changed the decision.
"As a result, there is a problem regarding the DPF working together with the UNF in future," Ganesan said.
The DPF politburo is to meet today and tomorrow to decide party's future course of action. Reportedly the party is considering joining the government alliance.
The DPF issued a warning on Tuesday evening to the opposition stating that it will be forced to counter react if the UNP reneges on its deal with the party regarding National List slots in parliament.
