Apr 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka's breakaway Marxist party leader Wimal Weerawansa today slammed the General Secretary of the ruling coalition Susil Premajayantha for not giving two national list slots for National Freedom Front (NFF) as promised.
Weerawansa said in a press conference today that the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) had earlier promised two national list seats for the NFF and Achala Jagoda and M. Musammil were nominated for them.
NFF fielded 14 candidates but only two of them including NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa elected to parliament.
The NFF leader blamed UPFA General Secretary for omitting the name of Musammil from the list of national list MPs of the UPFA. He criticized the appointment of Prof. Rajiva Wijesinghe as a MP charging the latter being in secret connivance with the defeated presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka. Weerawansa argued the letter written to UN by Prof. Wijesinghe in his capacity as the Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights was in favor of Fonseka that raised war crime charges against the government.
Wimal Weerawansa blamed Susil Premajayantha for being swollen headed by the mandate of the people and urged the people that created the mandate to come forward to safeguard it.
