Sri Lanka cabinet not more than 40, President says

Apr 21, Colombo: The new cabinet of Sri Lanka to be appointed by the President on Friday will not exceed 40 members, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said.
The President, who has secured a landslide victory for his governing party, has decided to keep the cabinet with a maximum of 40 members, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party former Minister Maithripala Sirisena has told the state-run radio today.
The General Secretary participating in a radio program said that the government, keeping the promises made during the campaign for general election, will definitely take steps to bring the necessary constitutional reforms.
The government promised to present a new constitution and to amend the present election systems of preferential votes.
The government has already initiated measures in this direction under President's instructions, former minister Sirisena told the program.
However, the main responsibility of the new parliament is to make Mahinda Chinthana Idiri Dekma, a reality, to turn the country into the wonder of Asia as President Rajapaksa has envisioned, he said.
