Five new faces into Sri Lanka parliament via ruling party national list

Apr 21, Colombo: Lakbima Sinhala daily, a newspaper belonged to the family of a newly elected ruling party MP of Sri Lanka, reported that the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) was planning to appoint five new MPs from national list.
UPFA has won 17 seats of the 29 slots of the national list. According to the newspaper report following are the new persons slated to be appointed into the parliament.
J.R.P. Suriyapperuma, a veteran of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), is a nationalist media personality close to Rajapaksa family.
Prof. Rajiva Wijesinghe is the Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights and he played a major role in Sri Lanka's international affairs in recent times.
Janaka Priyantha Bandara, the Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province is a relative of Rajapaksas. He entered politics with now Jathika Hela Urumaya leader Patali Champika Ranawaka in early 1990s as a student and later became famous as a magistrate that earned wrath of the ex-Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva. He had to quit the post of Public Trustee due to a Supreme Court ruling delivered by the ex-Chief Justice.
Malini Fonseka is an internationally acclaimed actress and Kamala Ranatunga is a veteran women's wing activist of the SLFP.
