Apr 20, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) says that the Information Technology sector of disaster management of the country is being strengthened now for a more productive service.
Under the programme, the National Disaster Relief Center and the regional centers are interconnected and software is being installed for the disaster management services.
The data gathered and exchanged among the disaster management centers can then be used for post disaster relief services, says ICTA.
The National Disaster Management Center is linked with the Sahana programme that can now be accessed via www.sahana.lk.
Sahana is a Free and Open Source Disaster Management system. It is a web based collaboration tool that addresses the common coordination problems during a disaster from finding missing people, managing aid, managing volunteers, tracking camps effectively between government groups, the civil society (NGOs) and the victims themselves.
