Newly appointed principals of Sri Lanka complain about salary reductions
Tue, Apr 20, 2010, 08:48 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Apr 20, Colombo: A set of newly appointed principals in Sri Lanka have been asked by the Education Department via a circular to agree through an affidavit to work for a lesser salary or to quit the posts, says Ceylon Teachers' Union.
These principals were promoted from teaching service to the principal service in 2010 through a competitive examination held in 2005.
For instance, some teachers that were earlier in Grade 1 of the teaching service are now in a lesser salary scale as Grade 3 principals.
However, they are paid the salaries they withdrew earlier as teachers. But their increments are held until their salary level in the principal service reaches to the present salary.
Ceylon Teachers' Union has written to the President asking to annul the relevant circular numbered 2010/12 and to provide a fair solution to the problem of these principals.
