Apr 20, Colombo: Sri Lanka's governing United People's Freedom Alliance General Secretary and Colombo District parliamentarian-elect Susil Premajayantha said there will be no ceremonial sitting in the parliament on Thursday (22) when the inaugural session of the seventh parliament takes place.
He had said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa will not address the inaugural sessions of the seventh parliament.
The parliamentary business therefore, will be restricted to the election of a Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Deputy Chairman of Committees. All members will then collectively take oaths before the new Speaker.
Following the swearing in of the new members of parliament, short speeches will be made by party leaders.
Assistant Secretary General of Parliament Neil Iddawala has reportedly said that the election of persons to these posts would be done in a cordial and friendly manner and hopefully the choices will be unanimous.
