Apr 17, Chennai: Indian immigration authorities at Chennai Friday night denied entry for the mother of Sri Lanka's slain terrorist leader, V. Prabhakaran into the country and returned her back in the same flight to Malaysia where she initiated the flight.
Central government of India reportedly has refused to allow Mrs. Vallipuram Parvathi who arrived at Chennai airport from Kuala Lumpur seeking medical treatment in India to alight from the plane and deported her immediately.
Indian media reports said a crowd of about 150 LTTE supporters including MDMK general secretary Vaiko and leader P Neduraman were at the airport to receive Mrs. Parvathi who was supposed to get admitted to a hospital in Chennai.
At the end of the war in Sri Lanka last May, Parvathi and her husband fled the LTTE controlled north and sought shelter at a welfare camp in Vavuniya. Later, Sri Lankan authorities housed the ailing couple in the Panagoda Army camp. Prabhakaran's father Tiruvekkdam Velupillai died this January while in the Army camp and following his death Parvathi was allowed to leave the country.
India last week deported the former Tamil National Alliance member and parliamentarian M. Sivajilingam when he went to India seeking medical treatment. India said that Sivajilingam is persona non grata due to his controversial political conduct.
