Apr 15, Colombo: BBC World Service programming is returning to the state-run radio Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation after the two parties have resolved the row over censorship.
According to an agreement reached by the SLBC with the BBC World Service, programmes of the BBC will be aired on channels of the SLBC.
SLBC said the listeners can tune into BBC World Service programmes in English on the English Commercial Service. The Sinhala language BBC Sandeshaya programme will be aired on the Sinhala National Service From today daily from 9.15 to 9.45 pm. At the same time the Tamil National Service will air the Tamil language BBC programme Thamil Osai.
During the height of the military offensive in the North last year the Chairman of the SLBC blocked the BBC World Service programme from the listeners.
BBC accused SLBC of censoring its programmes and individual news reports in the English, Sinhala and Tamil languages and not broadcasting to the Sri Lankan listeners.
