Apr 14, Colombo: Popular Sri Lankan film actress and defeated ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) candidate in the recent parliamentary polls, Geetha Kumarasinghe, has said that she is considering legal action against her own party leaders.
Ms. Kumarasinghe, who was a UPFA candidate for the Galle District has told BBC Sandeshaya that she was initially among the winning candidates but by the end of counting, she has lost the election.
"It was all done by my own party people. But unfortunately it is difficult for me to reveal the names," she told BBC refusing to name who was responsible for her defeat.
According to her, she was forced to send independent monitors to counting centers as she was not allowed to appoint her own polling agents. She has said that there was nobody to monitor the counting process at the time her preferential votes were counted.
Addressing a media briefing on Monday Ms. Kumarasinghe said she and her constituents in Galle did not accept her results.
Ms. Kumarasinghe said that she was harassed by her own party people and threatened with death.
"I love my party and have immense respect for the President. I received his blessings throughout my political campaign. However, my only regret is that certain persons have created problems for me," Ms. Kumarasinghe said at the media briefing.
