Business establishments open late today for the New Year shopping

Apr 13, Colombo: Sri Lankans celebrating the first Sinhala and Tamil New Year since the end of the war last May have thronged the businesses in the cities across the country.
Both state and private business establishments remained open today until late into the evening for the convenience of consumers engaged in last-minute shopping.
Purchasing manager of the state's Cooperative Wholesale Establishment, Y.M. Lakshman told the state-run radio, SLBC that Sathosa branches will remain open till 9.00 p.m. today.
The manager has added that prices of many items have been reduced and the daily turnover of the CWE has exceeded 100 million rupees.
The government has provided additional bus and train facilities to the benefit of the consumers.
