Apr 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says the first budget of the newly elected government would burden the people with more taxes and price increases.
JVP politburo member and defeated DNA candidate at the recent general elections K.D. Lal Kantha said if there was any possibility, the government would have given all concessions before the presidential election last December.
"The next budget is not going to be a rosy and don't look forward for bonanzas in it," Lal Kantha said.
The budget of the new government is expected to be presented in the parliament next month.
However, Lal Kantha observed that the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) led by former Sri Lanka Army Commander Retired General Sarath Fonseka and the JVP would play an active role in the next parliament although limited to six seats.
