Apr 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Elections Commissioner has prohibited any election propaganda or setting up of election offices in the polling divisions where a re-poll is to be held on April 20.
A re-poll is to be held on April 20 in several polling divisions in the Kandy and Trincomalee Districts after the Elections Commissioner annulled the votes in several polling booths where alleged election malpractices had taken place.
The Elections Commissioner's decision has been announced amidst various requests that have been made by politicians seeking permission to carry out propaganda before the re-poll.
Meanwhile, a special investigation is being carried out by the police into the alleged incident of stealing ballot papers by a gang from a polling booth in Kumuburupitiya in Trincomalee in the presence of police officers.
