* Sri Lanka President sends condolences to Poland

Apr 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sent the nation's condolences to the Government of Poland for the tragic loss of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, First Lady Maria Kaczynska and 95 others.

Sending a message of condolences to the acting President of Poland on behalf of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa said he was deeply distressed to learn about the plane crash that led to the tragic event.

The President remembered the role played by the late Polish President to enhance democracy in the dawn of the post communist era in Poland.

"The government and the people of Sri Lanka are conveying heart full sorrow on this sad occasion to the people of Poland and to the bereaved families," the President said in his message.

The plane carrying Polish President, his wife members of Polish Parliament, members of the clergy and senior civilian and military officials crashed near the airport in Smolensk, western Russia, early morning Saturday, April 10, 2010, killing all passengers.
