Apr 11, Colombo: The cabinet of Sri Lanka's new government will be formed after the re-poll on April 20, former government's transport minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.
"The swearing in of the cabinet would be delayed until after April 20," Minister Alahapperuma told the media.
The Minister said the ruling party had agreed with the Election Commissioner's decision to hold a re-poll in 36 polling stations in Nawalapitiya of Kandy district and Kumburupitiya in Trincomalee District following complaints of election malpractices during Thursday's parliamentary election.
The declaration of the final constituency of the parliament will be announced after the re-poll. The new parliament is set to convene on April 22.
Currently the United People's Freedom Alliance holds the majority with 117 seats against 46 of the mains opposition United National Party in the 225-member parliament.
The other opposition party Democratic National Alliance won only five seats and the Tamil party Tamil National Alliance won 12 seats. The ruling party is expected to receive another 15 seats from the re-poll.
