Apr 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka Army says it had not received any instructions on permitting and facilitating former Army Commander Retired General Sarath Fonseka, who is currently under military custody, to attend the seventh parliament when it convenes later this month.
Army Spokesperson Major General Prasad Samarasinghe said the Army has not received any instructions on facilitating the General's visit to parliament when it convenes on April 22.
Under the parliamentary privileges enjoyed by legislators on being officially named as a Member of Parliament (MP), General Fonseka has the right to attend parliament sittings.
The Elections Commissioner is to officially name the 225 members elected to the parliament at the recent general elections after releasing the final results following a re-poll in several polling booths in the Kandy and Trincomalee Districts on April 20.
