Sri Lanka Navy rescues an ill captain of a merchant ship

Apr 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy yesterday rescued a merchant ship captain who has fallen seriously ill aboard his ship sailing under the Maldivian flag from Male to the Port Kelang in Malaysia.
The Navy dispatched Naval Ship Shakthi to rescue the Captain of MV Lilly Line who needed immediate medical care yesterday at a location about 500 kilometers southeast of the Little Basses Reef in response to a request made by the Maldivian Coast Guard Headquarters.
The Navy brought the ill captain ashore safely to the Galle Harbour and a Navy medical team provided immediate treatment. The captain has been handed over to the local shipping agent afterwards.
The peace time Sri Lanka Navy assists the distressed merchant and fishing vessels and carries out search and rescue operations in a vast area of sea surrounding the country.
The Navy on Thursday (08) dispatched a fast naval vessel from Gall Base to location 400 km South of Dondra Head to rescue a seriously injured fisherman from a mulit-day deep sea fishing trawler.
