* Counting of votes begin in Sri Lanka

Apr 08, Colombo: The counting of ballots in the Sri Lanka parliamentary polls has commenced with the counting of postal votes in several districts while the ballot boxes from polling stations are being transferred to the counting centers.

The counting will begin once all the ballot boxes of a polling division reach the respective counting center. The returning officers say representatives of all the political parties have been allowed to accompany the ballot boxes to the counting center.

A special security plan is in place for this purpose has been implemented to safely transfer the ballot boxes to the 1,387 counting centers nation wide.

Postal vote results can be expected by 10:00 p.m. today, the officials say. The final result of the 2010 general election will be released by 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
