Apr 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Elections Secretariat has received complaints that supporters of former Resettlement Minister and ruling party candidate Rishad Bathiyudeen harassing private bus owners transporting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to polling booths to cast their votes.
Advisor to the Elections Commissioner Bandula Kulathunga has reportedly said the IDPs have been transported by the private buses to polling stations in the Wanni District.
According to Kulathunga, Minister Bathiyudeen's supporters have allegedly taken over some of the private buses provided for the IDPs by the Elections Secretariat.
The transport service to the IDPs to cast their votes was provided during the Presidential elections in January by the Elections Department.
