Around 123,000 public officials to be deployed for Sri Lanka elections

Apr 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka Elections Department has planned to deploy around 123,000 public officials to hold the general election on Thursday, April 08. Most of these officials will be on duty from Wednesday.
The elections Secretariat says that 14,088,500 are eligible for voting under the 2008 electoral registry and 11,098 polling centers will be available for them.
The Education Department ended the first term of school year today, several days ahead of schedule since the schools are to be used as polling centers. The schools will remain closed until April 23 for the New Year vacation.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration D. Dissanayake today announced April 09, the day following the election day a special public and bank holiday.
With this Sri Lankans will enjoy a long weekend plus Tuesday and Wednesday public holidays for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
