* Sri Lanka parliament meets today to pass emergency [2nd Update]

Apr 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka's 6th parliament will meet today for the last time to pass the emergency regulations after the lapse of the stipulated one month period.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa dissolved the parliament on February 9th to call for general elections. The Parliament reconvened briefly on March 9th to extend the emergency regulations.

Under the Constitution the President has the power in to recall a dissolved parliament to meet only for the purpose of approving the proclamation of emergency.

The 7th parliament is scheduled to meet on April 22 after the parliamentary elections on Thursday April 8.
